Gold Star/Demerit Day!

Thursday blogs are a bit of a mixed bag.  Today will be Gold Star/Demerit.  I listen to a bunch of different podcasts.  One of them is called Happier.  The hosts give themselves either a gold star (Yay!) or a demerit (Boooooo!) for the week.  Today I'd like you to pick one and award yourself with one of them.  I'm going to give myself one of each (as an example), but you only have to give yourself one.

On a professional level, I'm going to give myself a gold star today.  In fact, I'm giving us all gold stars today! We are making this whole school thing work.  It's not easy, but I'm happy we are here and I'm looking forward to how our year will look.

On a personal level, I'm giving myself a demerit.  I told some of you yesterday about what happened with my new floors.  I had the hardwood floors refinished in my house and it was not cheap!  I didn't see a text that came through that said I couldn't walk on the floor until after 6PM Tuesday, as the sealer wasn't dry yet.  I walked on it.... and proceeded to leave footprints.  I was in SO MUCH TROUBLE!  Everyone has cooled down a bit and the floor guys are coming to fix it this morning. That totally deserves a demerit.  Here's a photo of my handiwork....

Tasty Tuesday! Carry-Out....

Let's talk about carry-out today.  Since the pandemic started, we've for sure had more carry-out than normal.  We ordered from restaurants that we normally wouldn't go to and we ordered from favorites as well.  We wanted to support local business.  Last night we ordered from Manny's Deli and Cafeteria in Chicago.  They are hurting big time during this pandemic.  The vast majority of their customers all work in the Loop, but since downtown Chicago isn't really functioning at a full speed yet, their business is suffering.  They usually serve 1,000 customers a day and are lucky if they get 100 now.  They've been on Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives before and they are famous in the city of Chicago.

They are doing different things to drum up business, so one of the things they are doing are driveway drop offs in other towns.  Sponsor your driveway as a drop off location and people can place their orders and it all gets delivered locally to one location.  My friend sponsored her driveway last night, so we had Manny's for dinner.  It's a Jewish Deli and they have fantastic corned beef sandwiches, brisket, and potato pancakes.  We ordered all of it!  So good!

So....what's your favorite place to order from?  Did you get carry out more often during the pandemic?

Welcome Back! Motivational Monday!

Well, here we are!  The start of the 20/21 school year!  Yay!  It's our first blog of the year!

We will, for the most part, follow the same format each week. I love me some alliteration, so Monday's will generally be Motivational Monday, with some other things sprinkled in.

What are you motivated for today?  What are your goals this week?  Tell me about your weekend!

I'm motivated to get working on this new school year.  It's soooo not anything ideal, so I want to work on not losing my motivation through all of this.

Goals for the week...

I told you all on Friday that we bought a new house on Thursday.  My goals this week are to get my office set up so I can start being productive from home.  I have a boatload of other goals for this week, but that's my main, personal one.

Here is a pic of my new house.  I took it this morning while pulling out of the driveway...

My weekend - well, it contained moving, moving, and more moving.  I'm pretty stoked about my back yard and we did have some friends over for a fire on Saturday night.

So...what about you? Tell me your motivation for today, your goals for the week, and what you did this weekend.

Owning It! Last Day!

schools out

Last day, everyone!  We made it!

While this wasn't how any of us expected to spend their last few months of school, we can all say we made it through!

I need to "own" something.  If you saw my last blog (I've taken it down), you saw that I went on a bit of a rant about things being turned in late and the expectation of immediate grading.  When I re-read it, it sounded pretty harsh and I apologize.  I shouldn't have said it and if you know me, you know that I'd be the first person to point out that "you have no idea what people are going through".  I guess I should have followed my own advice here.  If you were hurt or offended in any way, you have my sincerest apology.  You know when I say things sternly, I say them with love!

I hope you all have a fantastic summer and you can turn your Chromebooks off for a couple months.  I've missed you and I can't wait to see you back in August.

Seniors....keep in touch on the socials!  I'm so proud of all of you!

Love,
Mrs. Cal

Feel Good Friday - Senior's Last Day!

Seniors! It's your last day today.  Crappy way to end, but I'll miss you nonetheless!
Sunday is Mother's Day!  Love on your momma, or your grandma, or whoever is a momma in your life!
Like I said the other day, I've sort of backed off these last couple of weeks to give you all time to work on other class stuff.

Seniors - Monday I will go through everything and make sure we are all on track with assignments.  I'll send you an email if you owe me something.  If you don't hear from me, we are good!

What are you feeling good about today?  Well, since this seems to be the new normal until the unforeseeable future, I'm just going to have to make do.

1.  I've go photographers coming tomorrow to take pictures of my house so we can get it on the market.  I haven't found a place to live, which is annoying, but I'm confident it will work out.

2. Pizza Friday?  Even this is boring these days.  I feel like I've cooked and cleaned up around 023840173593827491374 meals since this began.  I'm not cooking anything today or tomorrow, as to not make a mess before photographers arrive.

3.  I had book club last night on a zoom call.  That was good, as I read the book and watched the series, so I was able to contribute to the conversation.

4.  I'm going shopping for some new furniture, maybe?

That's all I've got.

Happy Friday!

Wordy Wednesday - Day...who knows!

Ugh...are we almost done?  School?  Covid?  I'm over just about all of it at this point!  So, I haven't posted in about a week or so.  I wanted to let you all work on your other classes.  No quiz from last week or this week. I'm working on a bunch of BHS stuff, but it's all behind the scenes stuff.
Do your blog today.  I'll check in tomorrow!

128 solves on this one. How many can you find?
