Motivational Monday

Yo...how was your weekend?   Mine was fine.  Dance/flooding Friday night.  I was SO happy to get home.  I'm not a good rain/storm driver.  

Saturday I hung out with Freeman (my BFF), baseball was cancelled, watched Jack's hockey game, and rounded out the night at Fall Fest in downtown Homewood.  

Yesterday I went out to Michigan City to the outlet mall to hook myself up with a new Vera messenger bag for school.  Then did a bunch of cooking for the week.

Sort of a boring, non-eventful weekend.

Birthday Traditions? And...it's National Voter Registration Day!

Since yesterday was my birthday, it made me think about different traditions.  Growing up, I don't really remember going out for dinner or anything like that for birthdays.  I do remember that almost every birthday, my mom made me a confetti angel food cake with pink glaze.  It was my favorite and was reserved for birthdays only.  I also remembered that most birthdays my presents included a HUGE (Sam's Club size) jar of big green olives, and a bag of dried apricots.  They were faves of mine, and while I always got other presents as well, those were staples.  

My mom passed away when I was 23, so the tradition stopped there.  I'm an adult now and buy olives and apricots whenever I want, but....I haven't had confetti angel food cake with pink glaze in a very long time.  Maybe I'll have to make one for myself this coming weekend.  

Anyhow, the traditions in our house include the Birthday Fairy (she comes in the middle of the night and ties balloons around your bed and decorates the house and yard), you get as many presents as your age (this seemed like a FANTASTIC idea when they were younger, but 16 presents is difficult!), birthday breakfast, birthday dinner out at the restaurant of your choice, and I'll make whatever kind of dessert/cake you want.  

As predicted, we didn't go downtown to Greektown last night for dinner.  Also as predicted, we wound up at Lassen's and then some friends came over for the Bears game.

It's my birthday!  I know, it sounds sort of silly, but I love birthday!  I love celebrating things! 

How was your weekend?  Mine was busy and fun.  All the games we had this weekend (Cubs and Notre Dame included), and only one of my son's fall ball games came out in the W column.  Booo.....

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Lots to feel good about today!  

• HOCKEY!!!!  I LOVE hockey!  My oldest son, who is a junior at HF, plays hockey.  Has since he was 7.  Tonight is the first game of the season/home opener.  Can't wait!
• It's Potluck Friday!  All the teachers bring stuff and we have a potluck lunch.  
• Bobcat Friday!  Do you have your bracelet and or Bobcat gear on today??  If your name is picked, you get a prize! 
• I worked on a big project after school yesterday and if today goes as planned, I'll finish it up today! 
• One week until Turnabout!  Are you going?  It will be super fun!  Hula Hoop and Limbo contest with prizes!  See me for a ticket.
• I am sort of bummed, though.  It's "couple's weekend".  We rented a house in Holland, MI with a few other couples, but so much came up this weekend that we had to back out.  :(
• My Mother-in-law is having surgery at 9AM this morning.  Send her some good juju.  It's a routine procedure, but she's really scared.
• We can't forget the 5 baseball games this weekend. 
• Ohhhhh....and the 12 year old has his first boy-girl party.  Big stuff.  Rachel's 13th Bowling Birthday Party!

Thursday - Gold Stars or Demerits??

If you are in my morning classes, you will see that I'm not here.  I'm at the junior high doing some Google training.  I'll be back at some point during 4th hour.  Be good for the sub..

• 1st Hour - Do your blog, watch CNN10, and work on your Quotes & Facts project.  Remember, this is due at the end of class tomorrow.  You also have a student news quiz tomorrow.

• 2nd Hour - Blog/CNN10.  Once that is finished, work on your script and get it turned in.  I'm going to read them tonight, so they need to be turned in by the end of class today.  Read your script out loud to yourself and time it.  Is it between 60-90 seconds?  It needs to be!

• 4th Hour - Blog/CNN10.  I should be back before anything else needs to happen.  Can someone pop in the lunches to see if anyone needs to buy Turnabout Tickets?  The ticket box and list are on my desk.

OK...for today's blog...

Gold Star or Demerit?  Which one are you giving yourself this week?  I'm going to give myself a gold star today.  We are house hunting, and while we haven't found one as of yet, we know that we are going to have to sell our house in the process.  I've lived in this house for almost 17 years.  I've accumulated quite a bit over the years.  The last two weekends, I've brought a few bags/boxes, etc. over to Goodwill and have cleared out a specific spots in my house.  They weren't very big spots, but I got rid of stuff!  Yay!  Gold Star for me!

Tasty Tuesday - Restaurants!

What's your favorite restaurant?

My birthday is next Monday, so I get to choose birthday dinner!  My favorite restaurant is Greek Islands in Greektown (Chicago).  I'm hoping we can get there at some point next week.  It's SO good!  I get the same thing every time.  Salad, Saganaki (flaming cheese), Olives, Chicken Shish Kabob.  I also love the downtown restaurant atmosphere there.  

If I had to stay local, I'd choose The Lighthouse, although it would probably take longer to get to the Lighthouse than it would Greek Islands from my house.  

Our go-to in the HoFlo is Lassens.  I have a couple of coupons for B1G1 that I can use once a month, my family loves going there, they have outdoor seating, and there is ALWAYS someone I know there.

Happy Monday!  How was your weekend?  Mine was fine...Nothing overly exciting.  I've been fighting a cold or sinuses the last few days, so there's that.  I'm tired and I slept like garbage.  I could have totally stayed in bed today.  Typical Monday, I guess.

• Assembly schedule today.  Guest speakers isn't one of our strong suits at the BHS.  I'm interested to see what today's assembly is about!
• It's HoCo in the HoFlo!  HF Homecoming game tonight and the dance tomorrow.  
• NO weddings!  The last couple of weekends have been SUPER FUN, but they have also been SUPER EXPENSIVE! 
• Pizza Friday!  Ordering it tonight.
• I've got dueling fitness trackers on today.  I feel either one of them is too generous or the other is too stingy!  I'm wearing both to find out.

Pizza! PIzza! Tuesday

Well, normally pizza is reserved for Fridays in the Cal house.  We have pizza every Friday in some capacity....delivery, carry out, in the restaurant, homemade, frozen, english muffin pizzas, calzones, deep dish, etc.  What do you like on your pizza?  Me?  If I'm making my own personal one, it's pepperoni & black olives.  That's my go-to.  I'm also a fan of sausage & green olives.  However, I'm the only olive fan in the Cal house, so if I don't get to make my own, I'm fine with sausage or pepperoni.

It's Palindrome week!  What is Palindrone, you ask??  It's where the date can be read the same forwards and backwards.  What a time to be alive, right?  

 

Anyhow, how was your weekend?  Mine was nice.  Ran some errands on Friday with my older son, went to the Fetching Market at the Lansing Airport on Saturday, my younger son had a baseball game Saturday afternoon, Saturday night we went to a wedding.  My BFF's daughter got married.  It was super fun.  Sunday was pretty chill.  Early morning baseball games and then had my in-laws over for dinner.  We booked our house for Maui!  Yay! We're renting a house that used to be owned by Fleetwood Mac!  Cal's are gonna be all boujee....

Back at it this week.  Kind of a dreary morning.  I hope that changes.  Lots on the agenda this week that needs to be checked off the list.  Monday can't be a bummer day :(

• It's nice out!  I love sleeping with the windows open!
• Another wedding this weekend.  This time, it's my BFF's daughter getting married.  Should be FUN!
• My house is clean!  Yesterday was "Eva" day.  I love it when my cleaning lady is at the house!
• I sort of have a free night.  I have an appt. at the Apple Store in Orland, but beyond that I'm free!

How was your holiday weekend?  

Mine was super fun.  I'm SO tired, though.  We got home around 5 last night.  Once we got unpacked, laundry started, etc., my two MORON sons decided to play catch with a REAL baseball in the backyard and broke my big picture window in our back room.  So, that led to an evening cleaning up all the broken glass, going to Home Depot for plywood, boarding up the window, etc.  Good times in the Cal house.  You should have been there!  

South Carolina is so pretty.  We were in the mountains.  LOVED it!  The wedding was beautiful and it was awesome to be with family!
